With Christian Eriksen certain to leave and Casemiro likely to be transfer-listed this summer, midfield reinforcements will be crucial for Ruben Amorim.
While the pair haven’t been utilised in abundance this season, they still provide coverage and experience when needed. Right now, for example, the boss is navigating Kobbie Mainoo and Toby Collyer’s respective injury layoffs.
As such, sealing a deal for a relatively proven star who’s a ready-made starter will be INEOS’ goal, though any acquisition must fit their desire of only adding younger players; it’s safe to say that neither Casemiro nor Eriksen would’ve been signed had Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s staff been at the helm.
In line with that, Fichajes claims Manchester United have set their sights on Crystal Palace whiz Adam Wharton for a big-money coup when the window reopens.
United mull over summer swoop for highly-rated Wharton
Albeit not the most reliable outlet, United pursuing Wharton is not that far out of the realm of possibility. They’ve been linked with the youngster on numerous occasions since his breakthrough at Selhurst Park but have previously prioritised other positions.
Palace have also been – and likely will be again – incredibly reluctant to part ways with their up-and-coming prospect, who made his senior England bow just three months after his Under-21s debut following a stellar campaign at club level.
The report suggests United would offer as high as £66 million to prise the 21-year-old from the Eagles in a proposal that may prove too lucrative for them to turn down.
Meanwhile, Wharton is only just making his return to action after enduring an injury-plagued season. He’s been limited to only 10 appearances in 2024/2025 thus far due to a groin complaint and made his first outing since last November in Palace’s 2-0 win over the Red Devils at Old Trafford on February 2.
