Rather than waiting season after season to hope the forward will eventually come good, Manchester United are preparing to take a ‘significant loss’ on Rasmus Hojlund this year.
Indeed, the club are said to be considering parting ways with the Dane just two seasons into his Red Devils tenure, having shelled out a whopping £64 million to prise him from Atalanta in August 2023.
You couldn’t really blame INEOS for cutting their losses sooner rather than later, either. Hojlund, albeit only 22 years old, has failed to meet the desired standards expected of him since arriving in England.
He scored 10 Premier League goals in his maiden campaign but has found the back of the net only twice in 19 appearances this term, with his most recent contribution coming all the way back at the beginning of December.
Hojlund’s continued lacklustre showings could force INEOS’ hand into an early sale
Unlike his £36.5m counterpart Joshua Zirkzee, Hojlund offers very little off the ball and has frequently come under the microscope for his ineffective runs or wasteful first touches.
Alas, a return to Serie A is now reportedly an option for the No.9, as Sport Witness has relayed claims from JuveLive detailing Juventus’ interest in the player. They are being tipped to intensify their efforts in the coming months – presumably, to ensure they’re first in line come the summer window.
To facilitate his departure, United would accept offers in the region of £40m, therefore taking a direct £24m hit on what they forked out for him.
Juventus plan to eventually offload Arsenal-linked centre-forward Dusan Vlahovic, whose prospective sale would pave the way for a younger alternative to fulfil the role in Thiago Motta’s squad.
