After confirmation emerged of Matheus Cunha’s new Wolverhampton Wanderers deal containing a £62 million release clause, his lengthy list of suitors have begun plotting their summer moves.
Numerous reports have already claimed Manchester United are among the forward’s admirers as they look to a window which could see them part ways with Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and, perhaps, Antony, given how much he’s enjoying his career resurgence with Real Betis.
In regards to Garnacho, the sole reason United are even considering offloading the young starlet is that his sale would generate pure profit, therefore giving them a substantial cash injection for the summer break.
Chelsea believe they have ‘laid the groundwork’ for a future coup after holding talks with the player and his representatives in January, so it remains to be seen if they’ll reignite their pursuit.
This season, Cunha has been one shining light amidst a turbulent campaign at Molineux. He has notched 12 goals and four assists in 24 appearances thus far, including two goal contributions against United in his side’s Boxing Day triumph.
The Midlands outfit will do their utmost to keep hold of their talisman when the term draws to a close. However, the insertion of a release clause essentially takes matters out of their hands, and GiveMeSport claims ‘there is confidence’ Cunha is eyeing a switch to another Premier League club.
As such, United are ‘optimistic’ they can lure the 25-year-old to the home of the 20-time champions, which, luckily for them, has proven to still have some pull even whilst the side are in complete disarray.
Unless they reign victorious in the Europa League final come May, the Reds cannot offer Cunha Champions League football next season, so it’ll be up to Amorim and INEOS chiefs to sweet-talk him into a potential transfer.
