Former Super Eagles Coach: Reveals Reasons for Resignation as Super Eagles Coach – Sunday Oliseh

Sunday Oliseh, former Super Eagles midfielder, recently disclosed the reasons behind his abrupt resignation as the national team’s coach in 2016 during an interview on Elegbete TV’s YouTube channel. He recounted the challenges he encountered during his brief tenure, which began in July 2015 and ended in February 2016.

Sunday Oliseh highlighted his decision to step down, citing a lack of support from various quarters including the football federation, players, and even the media. He expressed frustration over unpaid salaries for himself and his coaching staff, enduring illness without adequate assistance, and facing criticism from media circles.

“I coached the Super Eagles for fourteen games, winning four and losing only two, one of which was a friendly against Congo in Belgium,” Oliseh stated. “After four months without pay, and my assistants enduring six months without payment, along with personal health challenges and lack of support, I choose to resign.

He keeps emphasized that despite his departure, Nigeria remained on course to qualify for the 2017 Nations Cup, needing to secure a victory against Egypt to advance.
